Ivanovo don't have so old history of creation like other town of «Zolotoe Koltso», but it is the center of textile industry of Russia. The first mention about the town was in 1561 year.
At that time the settlement became the patrimonial estate of Shuisk and Circassian princes. Here in 17 century linen trade gained broad scope. A century later the first linen and cotton-printing manufactures. By the way, the first of them was based in 1742 by a serf peasant Butrimov. At once the local production gains the great popularity and began to be exported in England.
In 1743 Ivanov lands were passed into the property of princes Sheremetjevs and returns them about 9 % of overall quit-rent profit. By the beginning of 19 century the village numbered already more than 100 working factories. Here, in one of Ivan factories the first steam-engine appeared. In 1871 the village became the status of town; it was called Ivano-Voznesensk of Shuisk uyezd owing to Voznesenskiy suburb, based on the left bank of the Uvod river. The town is famous also for the first in Russia Soviet of Working Deputies, organized here in 1905. It happened during Ivanovo-Voznesensk strike. The town is interesting first of all by the history of development of Russian capitalism.
However historical monuments of architecture, except maybe two-three churches, were not kept here. The tourists visit in the first place the Museum of Ivanov chintz, where not only history of this material, but also ancient homespun linens with unusual patterns is represented.
The museum of Ivanov chintz is a part of the state historical museum of local lore by D. G. Burilin. Besides, in the part of the state historical museum of local lore is the museum of art and industry, the museum – exhibition center and the house museum of Bobnov's family.
The building, where the museum of art and industry placed, was built in1914 year by order of ivanovo – voznesensky factory – owner D. G, Burlin. The collection of fire – arms and cold steel from different countries are exhibited at this museum, including the armours of russian warriors of XIV century and the armours of Samurai of XVIII century, the collection made of precious metals. The gallery of portraits of manufactures families are represented at the museum, and also the marble sculpture, the things of arts and crafts. One of the oldest and popular expositional halls is «The Nature of Ivanov Region»
The museum – exhibition centre – is the museum of complex profile, represented itself the combination of various thematic and collection expositions.
The house – museum of Bubnov's family. Since 2002 year began the work for creation of circle chamber music, devoted to the history of famous family from Ivanov. The task of this project – using such material from their own lives, to acquaint audience with their way of life, traditions, relations, family leisure, their personal previous experience. There are carried out different interesting arrangements: literary – musical, chamber plays, meetings, devoted to issues of social life, thematic lessons and theatrical excursions.
On the other bank of the Uvod river two patrimony bureaus are concentrated. They are 10 here. Such great number of these establishments is explained by mass of nobles, living here and owning local factories. In the patrimony bureaus peasants used to bring quitrent, in them managers of the factories and estates lived. So in Krutitskaya street there is the patrimony bureau of the Sheremetjevs, the landlord of Ivanovo after 1743. Another two-stored building belonged to the first owners of the settlement, princes Cherkasskiy, and it is located now in August street and is called Shchudrovskaya chamber. The building got this name owing to the last owner – merchant Osip Shchudrov. In this house Osip established a shop in making printed clothes and prints. Here ready goods were dried. Owing to this, the building grew in height: it got another two floors. In the middle of the 20th century the original appearance was returned to the building in course of restoration.
Two printing corps of the former factory of Grachev were placed a little farther than Shchudrovskaya chamber. In these two buildings chintz was produced. On the first floors there are paint boilers, storerooms, the second floors were allotted for factory. And the third floors fabrics were dried.
But Ivanovo is not only «the textile town» and « bride town»....
The nature of Ivanov is worthy of great attention. About half part of the territory take place a deep forests, in particular dark firs and pinery. There are birch and aspen groves, and also oak woods on south along the river Klyazma. There are hares, squirrels, elks, foxes, martens, owls, thrushes. A lot of rivers and lakes, marshes are placed on the south – east of Ivanov. Fishing, hunting, mushrooms, berries, fresh air one can find in this region.
