Most dwellers of fresh waters in Kamchatka region belong to salmon family. The representatives of third salmon species:Pacific salmon, Pacific precious salmon and loach.

Fishing has become the important trend of tourism in Kamchatka. Rivers, seas and the seacoasts are teemed with various fish species. It is probably the only place, where all the six species of Pacific salmon, flat-fish, cod, various species of crabs, a number of river fish.

The main river of the peninsula Kamchatka with great number of its tributaries: Tolbachik, Topolovoi, Kozirevsky, Elovoi and tens others. The coasts of the rivers are covered with forests, coastal rocks, where the Kamchatka river carves its river-beds between mountain ridges. The region has diverse world of animal and birds, here there are all six species of salmon fish, which bears, otters, bald eagles, gulls.
Woods are rich in fur animal, bird, berries and mushrooms. In the flood-lands of the rivers there is one of the biggest lakes of Kamchatka: Nerpichie, Ajabachie - the largest spawning-ground of Sockeye Salmon, Harchinskoe. All of them are rich in fish, picturesque in their landscapes. The coasts at the delta of the Kamchatka form gulfs and capes with rocky precipices where one can see a great number of the bird colonies, abundance of sea animals in the coastal waters: sea fur-seals, eared seals and even sea lions. The Kamchatka river enters into the Ust- Kamchatskaya recreational zone. Rafting, water excursions are arranged along the river.
The Fast (Ìalkinskaya) river is located in the central part of the peninsula. It is the right tributary of the Big river, the largest river of the western coast and the second in extent in Kamchatka. The width of the river in the beginning of a rafting makes up 20-40 meters, in the bottom part - 50-100 meters. The speed of current - 1,5-1,9 ì/ñåê, the depth - 1,5-8 m, the water temperature - 5-8 degrees. The river stretches between Median and Ganalsky ridges, reaching the Western Kamchatka lowland where it breaks up into channels, forming one hundred small islands.
This place is favourable for rafting and fishing which stretches along the picturesque wild places where mountain landscapes change into flat as about 40 thousand individuals of ÷àâû÷è King Salmon, over 300 thousand individuals of Sockeye Salmon, over 20 million individuals of Hunchback Salmon, over 100 thousand individuals of Siberian Salmon and over 200 thousand individuals of Silver Salmon reach here for spawning. Char, Malma, Grayling and East Siberian Char are rather numerous in the river. One can fish also Salmo Mykiss and Kamchatka Salmon, entered in "Red book of Russia ".
Perhaps, each fisherman - extremer should visit the river Opala, the spring of which takes its beginning on the plateau of the volcano Burnt. The amateurs of a high-mountainous landscape will be satisfied, as the river twists mostly in the mountain hollows between volcanoes Burnt, Asachy, Mutnovsky. Sailing on the water smooth surface of the river Opala can be called by right " Russian hills ": the fast current, small rapids finally end with the strongest impression - falling from the rapids of the third category on leaving êàëüäåð in the Western Kamchatka lowland. Besides the impressions from rushing in the river pass by the active volcano Opala (2475 m), only in 5 km from its slope, will be unforgettable for the extremals.
Here one can also fish King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Silver Salmon, Char, Malma, Grailing, East Siberian Char, Salmo Mykiss or Kamchatka Salmon and also to try water of one of the largest Lower-Opalsky mineral springs. Bathing in the Upper-Îpalsky hot springs will be useful to the health.
The river Pymta, as well as overwhelming majority of the rivers of the Kamchatka Western coast, takes its beginning in the spurs of the Central ridge. In the beginning of the drafting its width makes up about 20 m, in the lower part up to 50 m. The speed of the current - 2,0 m/ñ, the depth - 0,5-2 m. The water temperature - 5-8 degrees. In the Komandorsky islands there are a great number of small and large mountain rivers, rich in fish. Here one may fish from the anchor buoys and in the open sea. King Salmon and East Siberian Char enjoy special popularity of fishermen in these places. King Salmon is one of the largest from all Pacific salmons and the largest fish of the North - East. It reaches the length 147 cm and the weight 57-61 kg. The average size makes up from 78 up to 103 cm, the weight 5.5-17.0 kg. Dark points and small spots are scattered on the body on the top part of the head on the whole lateral and tail fins. For East Siberian Char (salvelinus leucomaeis) pale – dark colouring with large spots is typical to East Siberian Char (salvelinus leucomaeis). In the sea it brightens, and during spawning it darkens, getting dark grey or chocolate colouring. The length of East Siberian Char is 99 cm and the weight - 11 kg. The average size is 35-55 cm, the weight 1.5-2.3 kg.
